Capotex, sponsor of the GAIN Forum
Around 120 representatives from 35 countries from all over the world met in Spain (Barcelona), from 20 to 25 May, to analyse the situation of the aggregates sector in the world and to look for future solutions for this industry, the largest producer of natural resources for society. The meeting was organised by the Aggregates Federation – FdA and hosted the biennial meeting of the Global Aggregates Information Network – GAIN Forum and the UEPG General Assembly.
This forum was sponsored by Capotex, as it shares with GAIN the objective of promoting greater sustainability and competitiveness of the aggregates industry on a global scale. In addition, Jorge Saura, Director of Capotex, gave a presentation on “Innovations in Health and Safety on Conveyor Belts”.
On the last day of the event, the UEPG Delegates Assembly was held, and the chairmanship of César Luaces Frades, Director General of the Aggregates Federation, was ratified in several Technical Committees, including “Respirable Crystalline Silica”, which will be one of the issues that European industries will soon have to pay attention to in order to comply with European guidelines.
GAIN members together account for 70% of the 50 billion tonnes of aggregates production, produced in around 500,000 quarries and gravel pits around the world, employing an estimated 4 million people directly. The aggregates sector is by far the largest extractive industry in the world in terms of number of quarries, tonnes provided to society and number of direct workers. Aggregates are the most consumed bulk product on the planet with approximately 6 tonnes/person/year.
